Racing ambition for young people

We are very excited to announce a sponsorship between Ardenta and Crank Racing Team. This very worthwhile opportunity enables some talented and dedicated teenagers to kick start their career. Through the bursary provided by the Crank Racing Team, youngsters can create new and positive futures with the tools required; skills, experience, and a motor racing mechanic’s tool bag.

Crank Racing’s bursary helps 12 young people become highly trained motorsport mechanics and gain real racing experience as key members of a motorbike race team taking part in track and road racing series. Crank Racing also supports and partners with Trailblazers, a mentoring charity which works with youth offenders as they restart their lives.  The Racing team is gathering momentum and esteem having already scooped third place in the national endurance championship in its first season. Now in its second season, we hope that Crank Racing’s second season apprentices will experience not only the thrill of being part of a great racing team, but also the satisfaction of completing their college courses, gaining work experience, ultimately unlocking better chances of employment.

Mark Grimes, Team Principal of Crank Racing Team explains the driving force behind the initiative: “Racing is our passion, but we want to race and also make a difference to young people’s lives; partnering with two colleges we support students both financially and with real life work experience. We also support youth offenders with the difficult next steps as they restart their lives, we all need a second chance sometimes!  I am personally delighted to have Ardenta on board.  Ardenta are a unique company who look beyond the normal corporate social responsibility and put something back into society. “

Recent research by the Institute of Public Research* states that at least 868,000 young people are now unemployed of which more than a quarter of them have been looking for work for more than a year, and half have never had a job. Some young people encounter difficulty returning to school, college or employment after offending. We are proud to work together with Crank Racing to help youngsters escape the ‘no-experience trap’ and get those disadvantaged by a lack of skills back on track to progress.

Scott Hanson, Technical Director of Ardenta, reflects on the sponsorship: ‘We are delighted to enter into a sponsorship with Crank Road Racing. Ultimately, we are looking at disciplines which enable us to see what can be achieved when the right engineering, skills and preparation align. Mentoring, funding, and providing the opportunity to gain experience and develop skills are tools which hold hope for a future in employment for these young people.’

We look forward to following the progress of the students in the team and tracing their path to a working life after completing their studies.
