Reducing Recovery Time

Establishing a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) that is appropriate to an eGaming provider's business is one challenge. Having the means by which to fulfil it is another.

Many recovery solutions are still based on a server log shipping process, whereby transaction logs are shipped via FTP to a standby server at the disaster recovery site, using SQL backup and other tools available on the market. However, as databases grow, the log shipping process becomes prone to failure, such that, in the event of server failures or other incidents at the live site, data recovery will be both partial and take significantly longer than projected, with Database Administrators (DBAs) spending yet more of their time overseeing this process.
